Sandy Beach Road
Project presentation
At the tip of the peninsula, facing the St. Lawrence River, Gaspé is a city that shapes the character of its residents as much as that of its buildings. The weather conditions there are among the harshest in Quebec: strong winds from the estuary, record snowfall, and intense freeze-thaw cycles. It is against this backdrop that this project featuring a gray Standard 2530 ramp has emerged as a concrete demonstration of the durability of Aluminium Distinction products.
First documented in 2020, this project was the subject of an extensive photographic study that continued through 2023—a total of 12 photos covering different seasons and angles. This documentation reflects the confidence local installers have in this model for conditions in the Gaspé Peninsula.
The Standard 2530 in gray was chosen for its understated finish, which blends well with the neutral tones of coastal homes—often built with gray and white exterior finishes to withstand the sea spray and UV rays of the coast. The gray color of the powder-coated finish also reflects the region’s natural environment—the gray of the river, the gray of the rocks, and the gray of the autumn sky.
Project features
Standard Model 2530 — the quintessential wide profile
The 2530 is the model with the widest handrail in the Standard line. This wider profile offers a spacious and comfortable grip, which is particularly appreciated in northern and coastal regions where residents wear gloves or mittens for much of the year. The 2530’s silhouette also lends a certain architectural presence to installations.
Powder-coated gray — the color of the Gaspé landscape
The gray finish of the Standard 2530 line blends seamlessly into the Gaspé landscape. Neither too understated nor too bold, this neutral shade harmonizes with aged natural wood siding, the gray coastal rocks, and the white or beige painted facades typical of the region. It’s a color choice that Gaspé homeowners appreciate for its natural elegance.
Four Years of Documentation — Proof of Sustainability
The photo series documenting this project spans the years 2020 through 2023—a total of four years of visual monitoring of the same installation. The photos clearly show that the railing has not discolored, rusted, or sagged at all. This is the best proof of the durability of Aluminium Distinction powder-coated aluminum when exposed to Quebec’s harshest conditions.
Anchors designed for areas with strong winds
In the coastal areas of the Gaspé Peninsula, code-required wind loads are significantly higher than in sheltered regions. Aluminium Distinction-certified installers size the anchors based on these specific loads, ensuring the railing remains perfectly stable even during the most violent windstorms.
Results
After more than three years of exposure to the extreme conditions in Gaspé, the gray Standard 2530 ramp is still as flawless as it was on the first day. This project is living proof that Aluminium Distinction’s maintenance-free outdoor aluminum handrails are built to last, even in the harshest natural environments.
From Montreal to Gaspé, Aluminium Distinction protects properties across Quebec with railings designed specifically for Quebec.
