Saguenay is a city of striking contrasts: deep fjords, boreal forests, and contemporary homes designed to make the most of these spectacular views. The owner of this home on Chemin des Coteaux had a clear vision for his exterior renovation project: a railing that would allow light and views to flow through, while adding a bold character to the facade with a touch of Contemporary black.

Aluminium Distinction’s Pure line offered him exactly what he was looking for: a tempered glass railing supported by large black stainless steel posts. The choice of a black finish on the metal components creates a dramatic contrast with the transparency of the glass panels, resulting in a decidedly modern and bold visual effect.

Large black stainless steel spigot — bold visual contrast

The stainless steel spigots with a matte black finish are the defining feature of this project. Unlike bright stainless steel, which blends into the background, the black creates a deliberate visual frame around the glass panels, like a picture frame encasing the Saguenay landscape. The effect is striking and very contemporary.

Complete transparency of the glass railing

The 12-mm tempered glass panels are secured solely by spigots, with no visible posts between the panels. The view of the lake and the surrounding nature remains completely unobstructed from any angle on the terrace.

Corrosion-resistant black stainless steel

Despite its dark appearance, the treated black stainless steel used in the Pure system is just as resistant to corrosion and moisture as traditional polished stainless steel. The black finish is achieved through a permanent surface treatment that does not peel or fade over time.
