In the spring of 2025, the Quebec government will introduce new regulations aimed at reinforcing the safety of private pools built before 2010, which have been an acquired right for several years now.
This announcement has major implications for pool owners, who will officially have to comply with the rules to ensure the legality and safety of their backyards. These rules will apply to all residences in Quebec, whether their pool is permanent or not, and municipalities will have the power to apply stricter standards within their territory.
Regulations at a glance
The Quebec government’s official document details the specific standards that all residential pool owners will have to follow. You can read the full document here. These include requirements for pool fencing, access systems and safety devices.
